Biography

Dr. Mohammed Saad Alqahtani, a senior  HPB&Multi-Organ Transplant consultant surgeon. was elected as the President of Pan Arab Liver Transplantation Society  PALTS.

He is the Chairman of the National Liver Transplantation Committee(SCOT).

Also, Dr. Alqahtani is the Director of the Multi organ Transplant Center at King Fahad Specialist Hospital Dammam.

He is one of the founding members of the Multi Organ Transplant Program at King Fahad Specialist Hospital-Dammam that launched in 2008.

He has experience in multi organ transplant (liver, kidney and pancreas) as well as hepato-pancreato biliary surgery dealing with complex liver and pancreatic cancer cases.

He performed with the team more than 350 liver transplant surgeries for both adults, and pediatrics using cadaveric and living donor grafts. He also performed around 200 pancreaticoduodenal resection procedures(Whipple’s)

for pancreatic cancer .

He also performed with the team the smallest living related liver transplant case of 5KG paediatric patient using microscopic arterial re-construction.

In 2016, he established the Renal Transplant Program at King Abdullah Medical City, Makkah and preformed its first case in April of 2017.

Dr. Alqahtani  has made major and cutting edge procedures and was very successful on these cases. He is very well-known not only in the Kingdom but around the Middle East because of his achievements to the field of transplantation.

He has led his team to successful rare complex liver transplant surgeries including the first case of cadaveric liver transplant for colorectal cancer liver metastasis and the first three cases of domino liver transplant in 2016, 2018 and 2022 in the whole of Saudi Arabia which lead to research publications.

Dr. Alqahtani has led the team to perform the first  split liver transplant procedure in October 2019. He also led the first paired exchange liver transplant in the history of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Dr. Mohammed Alqahtani has many research publications with his focus of research on liver transplant and he was one of the authors of the recently Published Liver Transplant Guidelines in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

He earned his Transplantation / Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery Fellowship from the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada as well as the American Society of Transplant Surgeons (ASTS) certification. He also earned his General Surgical Oncology Fellowship at McGill University in Montreal Canada. He also received his Masters of Science in Health Administration in University of Alabama Birmingham, USA and is now a certified member of the Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS).
