Prof. Aba Alkhail is currently a Consultant Gastroentrology and Transplant Hepatology in the Department of Medicine at King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Before that he was the Chairman of the Department of Liver Transplant at King Fahad Specialist Hospital in Dammam, Saudi Arabia. He is also an Adjunct Professor of Medicine at AlFaisal University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Also he is currently the President of the Saudi Society of the study of liver disease and transplantation (SASLT). He completed his residency in internal medicine as well as the gastroenterology fellowship and transplant hepatology at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario (Canada), He is board certified by the American Board of Gastroenterology and Hepatology; the American Board of Transplant Hepatology; Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada in Gastroenterology and Hepatology (FRCPC “GI”); the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada, Internal Medicine Board (FRCPC); and the American Board of Internal Medicine (FACP).Research interests include issues surrounding the management of hepatitis B, hepatitis C, hepatocellular carcinoma, and liver transplantation, having presented results of his work at various international medical society meetings (poster/oral presentations). Dr. Aba-Alkhail has authored or coauthored several journal articles, including being on writing committees for the Saudi Society for the Study of Liver Diseases and Transplantation (SASLT) guidelines for management of hepatitis C infection. He is the leader of the working group to develop Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) and liver transplant SASLT practice guidelines that was published. Dr. Aba Alkhail is a member of the National Allocation Liver Transplant Committee for the Saudi Center for Organ Transplantation and he is in the executive committee of the Pan Arab Liver Transplant Society.
